Bat City Track Club was founded in September 2021. But where did our name come from? The name is grounded in Austin’s unique, vibrant history -- including our love affair with our very own bat population. After the famous Congress Avenue Bridge was reconstructed in 1980, a perfect habitat for Mexican free-tailed bats was formed.
Over the course of four decades, Austin has become home to the largest urban bat colony in North America. Austin celebrates its status as the Bat Capital of America. Like our bats, we seek to be resilient, tough and most of all – FAST.
Bat City Track Club is an emerging national class and regionally elite team with a primary focus on distances 5,000m to the marathon. With a diverse membership including former NCAA stars, multiple U.S. Olympic Trials qualifiers, and top regional and international competitors, BCTC has established itself as one of the premier teams in the Southwest.
At BCTC we are unapologetically long distance focused with an emphasis on high end aerobic development over months and years. Celebrating individual athlete success within the team construct is our focus with emphasis on entries in top regional races, elite national races, IAAF Gold Label Marathons, USATF and foreign national Championships.
